After Your Choose Health Visit: First-Week Care & Warnings

North Scottsdale (near Shea Boulevard and Pima Road, serving Grayhawk/DC Ranch area)
If you do one thing in the first 24 to 48 hours after Choose Health, let it be this: keep it simple. Follow the plan we set, drink plenty of water, skip alcohol, and hold off on heavy workouts while your body settles in. We’ve seen people do really well when they don’t try to “outwork” the program early.
Choose Health is an ongoing program, not a one-and-done visit. The first week sets the tone. And in Scottsdale, the desert heat can sneak up on you fast, so hydration and smart timing matter even more.
First 24 to 48 hours: the “don’t push it” window
Right after your appointment, our goal is steady, calm, and consistent. We generally recommend you treat the first two days like a reset. You’re building the rhythm you’ll follow in your check-ins and follow-ups, so this is the time to be extra honest with your body.
Quick first-48 checklist: prioritize sleep, drink water throughout the day, eat according to your plan, skip alcohol, and keep exercise light and easy.
What we want you to pause (temporarily)
- Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting. Keep movement gentle for now, think easy walking and normal daily activity.
- Saunas, steam rooms, and very hot yoga. Heat stress plus early program changes is a rough combo in Scottsdale.
- Alcohol. It tends to derail hydration and appetite cues fast, especially in the first couple days.
Symptoms that are a hard stop
Call our Scottsdale team right away if you have symptoms that feel urgent or are getting worse. If symptoms feel urgent or are getting worse, don’t wait. Seek urgent care or emergency help.
Days 2 to 7: how Scottsdale heat changes your “normal” week
Most people feel better when they stay consistent for the full week, even if they’re eager to get back to hikes, golf, or workouts. In North Scottsdale, a lot of our Grayhawk and DC Ranch clients try to squeeze activity into the middle of the day because it’s convenient. That’s the moment we see dehydration and lightheadedness show up.
48 to 72 hours: keep your routine boring
Stick to the plan, keep meals and hydration steady, and avoid “testing” your limits. If you want movement, do it early morning. Scottsdale sun and heat hit harder than people expect, and sweating more does not mean you’re getting better results. It usually means you’re losing fluids you need.
Days 4 to 7: gradual return to activity
- Increase workouts slowly. If you’re going back to the gym, keep intensity moderate at first.
- Plan outdoor activity for cooler morning hours. Midday errands at Kierland Commons plus outdoor exercise can stack up faster than you think.
- If you feel dizzy or “off, ” scale back the same day. Don’t try to power through it.
The habits that protect your Choose Health results (and make follow-ups easier)
Choose Health works best when you treat it like a week-by-week practice. The people who keep their results long-term tend to do the simple things consistently, even after the “new start” feeling wears off.
Hydration you can actually stick with
Carry water and sip all day. If you’re outside in the Scottsdale heat, drink before you feel thirsty and take shade breaks. Thirst is usually late.
Simple tracking beats perfect tracking
Write down what you ate and how you felt. It’s not about judging yourself. It helps us spot patterns fast in your check-ins so you don’t lose momentum.
Plan for the “I’m busy” moments
Most slip-ups happen when you’re hungry and unprepared. Keep your plan-friendly options available so you don’t end up making decisions when you’re drained.
And yes, we’ll talk through real life stuff. Travel, social events, and those weeks when your schedule is all over the place. That’s what the follow-ups are for.
When to reach out to us (and what we can fix quickly)
If something feels off, tell us sooner. We’d rather answer a quick question than have you sit in worry, or push through something that needs an adjustment. We serve clients across Scottsdale, Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Tempe, and Mesa, so we’re used to helping you problem-solve even when you’re not right down the street.
